Reds extend lead to 16

Right guys, it's time for me to dash.

It's once again been a fantastic day of football and one in which Liverpool one again. It just keeps happening.

They had to come from behind today, somewhat surprisingly, as they allowed rock-bottom Southampton to take the lead at Anfield.

Everyone was stunned, not least Arne Slot. But the Dutchman must have given them a right rollicking at the break because everything changed after it.

Darwin Nunez started the comeback before Mohamed Salah buried two penalties in style to secure the victory and send Liverpool 16 points clear of Arsenal.

There was some drama down on the south coast as Brighton came from behind to beat Fulham deep into stoppage time.

Joao Pedro was hacked down in the area and then buried a 98th-minute spot-kick to send the Amex into party mode.

At Selhurst Park, it was not quite as thrilling. It took until the 83rd minute for a goal to come, and it was Ismaila Sarr who provided it to secure the win for Crystal Palace over Ipswich.

Anyway, that's me done now. I shall see you all very soon.

Nunez shushes the Saints

Oh, Darwin Nunez - what a guy.

Whether the striker is in good form or even bad, he is just so entertaining to watch play footie.

Today was a typical Nunez display. Some very frustrating elements, but then also one of real quality for the goal.

Before he started the Liverpool comeback, Southampton fans chanted at him, 'you're just a s*** Andy Carroll'.

I'm not sure why. They already did that in the cup game earlier this season, and Nunez went and scored.

Well, he did it again here and shushed them for the second time this campaign - when will the Saints every learn?

I don't think any fanbase will; they just love that chant.

'What a fantastic climax'

Well, that was an ending. As a reporter, 97th-minute winners from the spot are about the worst thing that can happen, but as a football fan, what a fantastic climax to the game that was.
And you've got to say Brighton deserved it. Fulham had their moments, but Brighton were the better side here, and although they weren't at their best, they showed flashes of the fluid football that has propelled them up the table since that 7-0 defeat by Forest.
Brighton take the points home and move up to sixth in the process, but devastation for Fulham, who head back to west London with nothing.

Mo makes more history

Mohamed Salah just always seems to be matching or breaking records.

I have to admit, I don't think that Salah was particularly at his silky best today, but he didn't need to be.

The winger's two strikes today means he has equalled the record for most goals and assists in a 38-game Premier League season.

His 27 goals and 17 assists mean he has 44 goal involvements, the same as Thierry Henry back in 2002-03 and Erling Haaland two seasons ago.

I'm pretty sure he is going to smash that record now; he is just flying.

With the rate he is scoring, I have a feeling he could match Haaland's 36 goals, the top-flight record.

Salah is just a machine.

'Whatever Slot said worked'

In teh first half, Arne Slot, sat just behind the press box in the final game of his touchline ban, looked agitated and stood with his hands on head, eyes shut. But whatever the Dutchman said at half-time clearly worked as normal service was resumed.

Reds roll on

Another day, another Liverpool win.

That's now four victories on the spin for the Reds, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

I mean, the fact they even allowed Southampton to take the lead in the first place is enough cause for concern.

But, I guess, at this time of the season, they just need to keep getting points on the board.

Well, they now have 70 of them, which is 16 more than closest rivals Arsenal, who do have two games in hand.

I'm not sure anybody sees them getting caught now, do they?

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 3-1 Southampton

Liverpool go 16 points clear!

The Reds made it hard for themselves, but ultimately, their quality shone through in the second half.

Two penalties courtesy of Mohamed Salah and a Darwin Nunez strike secure a comfortable win in the end.

They continue their march to the title.

16:58

FULL-TIME: Brighton 2-1 Fulham

The whistle is blown, and the Amex erupts!

It's a mammoth victory for Brighton as they go sixth in the Premier League table, one point behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

It's also their fourth win on the spin, and they have Joao Pedro to thank for it after his late penalty.

What a match that was.

Goal:Brighton 2-1 Fulham (Pedro pen 90+8')

WHAT A PENALTY THAT IS!

Joao Pedro hammers the ball into the corner to send the Amex into bedlam. What a spot-kick, right at the death.

How big could that goal be in Brighton's season?

PENALTY TO BRIGHTON!

Right at the end!

Just when all hope looked lost, Joao Pedro has won Brighton a penalty in stoppage time.

It's a really terrible challenge from Harrison Reed, who clumsily wipes out the attacker.

This is a huge spot-kick for Pedro.

Brighton 1-1 Fulham

Brighton are piling on the pressure in search of a winner.

They are getting a bit desperate, though, some of their passing in these last few moments have been very poor.

Can they find something from somewhere?

Crystal Palace get the job done, just.
