Arsenal are set to give goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale a new long-term contract as reward for a series of fine displays.

The England star, 24, has 13 Premier League clean sheets this season, behind only David de Gea’s 15, to aid the Gunners' title bid.

And the club are keen to mark that with an increase on his current £60,000-a-week deal.

Ramsdale, who has three caps, has become a firm fan favourite, winning over supporters who had questioned the wisdom of his £24million signing from Sheffield United in 2021.

He starred in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Newcastle last Sunday, making a string of excellent saves, and manager Mikel Arteta said afterwards: ‘He has been brilliant.

'It has been a big jump for him, from where he was, to play at a club like Arsenal and with the standards that are required, but he has really improved in every aspect.

Ramsdale’s fellow England international Bukayo Saka is also set for a new deal, while Arsenal are also pushing to tie down France centre back William Saliba.

Arsenal are next in action against Brighton on Sunday May 14, as the Gunners look to finish the season in strong form and keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.
