Cricket fans accuse Aussie sport star's relative of being a rapist after she made a light-hearted joke about the Ashes

  • Is not the first time she has angered cricket fans

A former Olympian has angered England cricket fans on social media, with some going to vile lengths to retaliate, suggesting that her Great Great Grandfather was a rapist.

Georgie Parker is a former Hockeyroo, Olympian and AFLW star who has transitioned into a media personality and a self-confessed 'cricket tragic'.

With The Ashes heating up in Brisbane in the second Test, she decided to post a light-hearted joke about how she was lucky she was born Australian and not English.

'Just thinking how grateful I am my Great Great Grandpa stole a loaf of bread and got sent to Australia,' she posted.

'Because it means I don't have to support England and pretend to like 'Bazball'.'

But a simple little joke exploded into something disgusting, as trolls came out of the woodwork to savage her.

Parker obviously hit a nerve with English cricket fans, who started to pile on with vile accusations that her distant relative was a murderer or rapist on social media platform X.

'He probably did something a lot worse than steal a load of bread,' one posted.

'More likely a rapist or murderer,' said another.

'You're wrong actually he was a rapist,' accused yet another.

Parker was horrified with the responses, replying 'JFC what is wrong with you people' and 'Jesus Christ. You need some help'.

She even had to qualify that she was joking and that her family were not descendants of convicts at all.

'Not actually a convict, if I'm being honest. Was just making a bit of a joke,' she said.

Even then she was trolled by a humourless England supporter.

'Not a very good joke though is it? Humour is not something Australians are generally associated with I suppose,' they huffed.

It was a different story on Instagram, where Parker posted the same message.

There, her followers could see the light-heartedness of her comment and joined in on the fun.

'Thanks for taking one for the team, Gramps.' Parker posted on Instagram.

'Onya Gramps,' one follower replied.

'Bravo Grandpa,'  another followed posted.

It is not the first time that Parker has angered cricket fans.

In January, she sparked backlash after posting on X that many of the late, great Shane Warne's 708 Test wickets were 'pies' while praising Alana King's recent Ashes form.

In her post, she said she would 'upset some men' before arguing that even poor deliveries can take wickets by forcing batters into mistakes.

Parker shared footage of King bowling Nat Sciver-Brunt with a delivery fans have compared to Warne's 1993 'Ball of the Century.'

Many cricket supporters condemned her take, calling it disrespectful and insisting Warne's accuracy set him apart.

Some critics argued King's wicket involved more luck than skill, while others defended Warne's legacy as unmatched.

King, who debuted in 2022, has excelled across formats and has won multiple major titles.

She has previously credited Warne as her inspiration, making the debate even more heated.
