Video: Police force sued over school WhatsApp arrest sent dozen officers to throw IT boss in a cell over blog post criticising senior officers

IT director Sam Smith is suing Hertfordshire Police for £70,000 after a dozen officers searched his home, seized his devices, and held him in a cell overnight all in response to a blog post criticising the force. The case was dropped as 'not suitable or lawful,' and Smith says the stress caused personal injury. This lawsuit follows a previous incident in which the same force paid £20,000 compensation to a couple unlawfully arrested after complaints about their daughter's school on a WhatsApp group.
