Aussie Olympic athlete's perfect message after being dumped on Valentine's Day

  •  Lauren Ryan set a PB in the 3000m over the weekend
  •  Aussie had broken up with boyfriend hours before

Aussie Olympic runner Lauren Ryan has delivered an amazing personal best performance in a 3000m race in the US - just hours after being dumped by boyfriend on Valentine's Day.

Ryan, 26, was a few lengths behind Doris Lemngole on the final lap at the Boston University Valentine Invitational indoor meet on Saturday before making her move.

The Victorian kicked it up a gear and managed to overtake Lemngole to snatch victory in 8:41.40, just three hundredths of a second ahead of her rival.

The mark was nine tenths faster than her winning run in the same race in 2024, but meant a lot more.

'I've got a bit of fuel running inside me at the moment,' she told Citius Mag.

'I just wanted to win so bad, I've just had a tough run the last couple of months with some family stuff - and my boyfriend broke up with me yesterday.'

The interviewer was shocked by the remark: 'On Valentine's Day?!'

'Yeah,' Ryan answered.

'So I just wanted to win. It was a tough competition. I felt like I was falling at the back a little bit then I just had this fuel inside - I just wanted to win really bad.'

Ryan celebrated the win with a subtle jab at ex

'The only person that won't let you down is YOURSELF,' she wrote, adding love heart and rose emojis.

'Grateful for those around me.'

She later posted to Instagram: 'That one meant more than you know in a month filed with so much noise. Thank you to everyone in my corner!'
