Bayern Munich chief aims brutal dig at Liverpool's transfer strategy in clear hands-off message with Reds plotting move for £173m star

A Bayern Munich official has launched a brutal attack on Liverpool's transfer strategy amid the Reds' pursuit of £173million star Michael Olise.

Uli Hoeness, the club's honorary president, doubled down on the German giants' refusal to entertain any offers for Olise while aiming a dig at Liverpool's spending in last summer's transfer window.

Reports in Germany suggest Liverpool are willing to put a huge £173m on the table to sign Olise, with Spanish side Real Madrid ready to bid £143m to bolster their attack.

'If that's true - I don't believe it is, but Liverpool spent 500 million this year and are having a very bad season,' he said. 'So we won't be contributing to them playing better next year.'

Liverpool have struggled this season despite a significant outlay on the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz - who had interest from Bayern before moving to Anfield - and Hugo Ekitike.

Arne Slot's side are in a battle to qualify for the Champions League and sit fifth in the Premier League, a point ahead of Chelsea in sixth.

Bayern Munich have shut the door on Michael Olise potentially leaving the club this summer

The Reds are searching for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who is leaving the club at the end of the season, and have former Crystal Palace man Olise on their radar.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl insisted earlier this week that they are 'not even considering' selling the Frenchman.

Chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen added: 'No matter which club tries to lure him away, anyone who plays for FC Bayern knows what they have at FC Bayern.'

Eberl added that there is no release clause in the deal, with Olise deemed one of the most valuable players in world football having hit new heights after joining from Palace at the start of last season.

Olise, 24, joined Bayern from Palace in a deal worth £52m in the summer of 2024 and has three years left on his contract.

He has impressed during his time in Germany, recording 16 goals and 27 assists in 39 league games.

Olise is also thought to be happy at Bayern, who are on course for the Bundesliga title and face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
