Arsenal survive Seagull scare!

Five games. 12 goals. And enough drama to fill a box set.

The headline is this: Arsenal remain on top of the Premier League.

With each passing game Man City win, the Gunners have to live with the pressure. But on the two occasions they've been asked the question thus far, Mikel Arteta's men have answered.

For Liverpool, their victory over Wolves was important. But their day - and that of their visitors - was also about honouring Diogo Jota. His children being led out onto the Anfield pitch by Virgil van Dijk will live long in the memory.

Elsewhere Brentford well and truly turned on the style, didn't they? Not even an Antoine Semenyo backheel could save the Cherries in west London.

Fulham, too, deserve their plaudits. That's another impressive victory for Marco Silva, whose side climb up to 10th as it stands.

Burnley vs Everton? Well... the less said about that game the better.

And, with that, it is time for me to call it a night!

Thank you so much for joining me as the madness unfolded across the grounds, and make sure to tune into our live coverage of Chelsea vs Aston Villa.

Until next time, take care, folks.

Slot: 'I like to win'

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool's 2-1 win over Wolves, Reds boss Arne Slot said:

In football it's about results. So many times this season, our performances have been good without the results. A win is what I like.
There are positive things to take. I had to bring Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo in, who haven't trained much this week. To still win is a positive.

On Florian Wirtz scoring his first goal, Slot said:

The team have seen how much he did already for us, creating chances and being so close to a goal. Everyone in football knows if you don't about what is said about you. He will go on and score many more goals than one for us. I think Florian did more than only score today.

On Diogo Jota's two sons being mascots for the match, he said:

It's been touching so many times already. Our fans have shown the greatest respect every single game to his family but also fans from other clubs. Today we saw the same. Another special moment for us but also for his wife and children.

Odegaard: 'Tough game but an important win'

Speaking to Sky Sports after Arsenal's 2-1 win over Brighton, Gunners captain Martin Odegaard said:

It was a tough one in the end but I think we played a good game. We were dominant from the start, they got a bit of momentum towards the end but we got an important three points.
I think we played really good, controlled the game but we could have done better and not let them score like they did. They got the momentum when they got the goal, got belief back, but we did well to defend.

Now time for the big one...

Good news, folks. Arguably the best football of the day is still to come.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa. Stamford Bridge under the lights. Oh, this is going to be tasty!

We'll continue sifting through the reaction from today's 3pm games, but in the meantime, my esteemed colleague Harry Bamforth is across every happening for the rapidly approaching 5.30pm kick-off in west London.

You can catch his live coverage of that game, here:

Wirtz: 'I knew I'd score eventually'

Florian Wirtz has been chatting post-match after scoring his first goal for the Reds - in what proved to be the winner in their 2-1 victory over Wolves at Anfield.

Here's what the £116million man had to say:

I was confident that I would score one day. I wanted to start earlier scoring and assisting but it was like this and I have to accept it. I just know that it will come and I try to keep going like that.
We played a brilliant first half. We lost the game and got it back. Everyone was working hard. In the last 20 minutes, we made it a bit difficult. I cannot explain why. We have to change that.
That's how we want to do it. We want to be there and be on top of the table. It's not been an easy start for us but we're doing better and getting the points.

'Arsenal found a way to win despite their nerves'

The Arsenal nerves jangled but they got through that to keep their winning streak going.
What a save, though, from David Raya to deny Yankuba Minteh. That was so crucial.
17:15

How big was this moment?

I think it's fair to say David Raya earned his Arsenal side that three points this afternoon.

His cat-like save from Yakuba Minteh's beautiful curling effort kept the Gunners ahead at a very tense point in the game, where momentum was shifting in Brighton's favour.

Who knows how important that could be in the race for the title...

Festive football delivers the goods again...

They may not have matched the legendary scorelines of Boxing Day 1963, but December 27, 2025 still served up a thoroughly entertaining day of football, didn’t it?

Let’s take a look at all of today’s Premier League scores, including the early kick-off:

  • Nottingham Forest 1-2 Manchester City
  • Arsenal 2-1 Brighton
  • Brentford 4-1 Bournemouth
  • Burnley 0-0 Everton
  • Liverpool 2-1 Wolves
  • West Ham 0-1 Fulham
17:03

From comfort came chaos!

Well, that was far from straightforward!

When Arsenal and Liverpool went 2–0 up, I honestly felt like both sides were going to cruise to their wins.

But this is the Premier League - and if ever there was a reminder of the sheer quality and competitiveness of this league, today was it.

Brighton and Wolves fought back valiantly, but in the end it just wasn’t quite enough.

Brentford on the other hand, wow! When all the headlines were about Antoine Semenyo, it was Kevin Schade who stood out above all the rest.

Fulham fans, what a result for your lot, too. An away win at West Ham has got to feel good.

Burnley and Everton fans, I'm sorry you had to spend your festive time off watching that...

16:58

FULL TIME: Brentford 4-1 Bournemouth

Kevin Schade gets his hat-trick as the whistles go around the grounds!

What a result for Keith Andrews' side. What a performance by Schade.

Simply sensational!

16:57

FULL TIME: Burnley 0-0 Everton

It was never the most tantalising match on paper, was it?

I don't think either side can complain with that result.

Possibly Burnley should have taken more chances.

16:56

FULL TIME: Liverpool 2-1 Wolves

Liverpool didn't make it easy. They never do, this season.

But they get the job done, and claim another three points. They're up to 4th in the Premier League.

Heartbreak for Wolves, who remain well and truly rooted to the bottom of the table.
