Gunners hammer City

My word, what a night of football!

I'm pretty sure not even the most delusional Arsenal fans predicted they would take apart Manchester City like they just did.

That second half was a true battering, they took City to the cleaners. I haven't witnessed anybody do that to a Pep Guardiola side in a long time, if ever.

Arsenal got off to a flyer through Martin Odegaard within two minutes, but the game then took a while to get going again.

It took Erling Haaland to net an equaliser early in the second half for Arsenal to really click into gear.

And my word did they click...

Each of their four goals after the break was magnificent, and in truth, they could have easily scored a couple more.

The Gunners will certainly not forget this night in a hurry, but City will want to wipe it from their memory in a jiffy.

Anyway, it's now time for me to go and have a lie-down, I am knackered after reporting on that, I truly am.

Thank you for joining us yet again, I will see you all tomorrow when I am reporting at Stamford Bridge.

Until then, goodbye!

Arteta: 'We scored some beautiful goals'

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal boss, speaking to Sky Sports:

It is a great day for us, especially with the necessity that we had to win the game. The manner that we have done it I am really pleased. We had to suffer and in moments we needed a bit of luck, and we had it.
They hold you very deep and in those moments you have to suffer and as I said, there were moments that we were lucky. Overall, we scored some beautiful goals and the team showed a high competitive level.

On Myles Lewis-Skelly's performance:

You need big individual performances to beat them. Myles was certainly one of them, the maturity he showed and competitiveness as well. He plays with that personality and he's scored a beautiful goal.
He has been pushing us since he has been with us. We like his character and personality. He has so much courage. He has qualities that fit into the way we want to play. He got some minutes and he is asking for more. He deserves to play.

Guardiola: 'In the last 20 minutes we were found out'

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City boss, speaking in his post-match press conference:

I agree with Stones [that it's unacceptable]. We reacted really well. After the Havertz miss, we played the game in the highest level we can be. You can lose two, three, four. But what we have done in 65, it was not done. Hopefully, we can learn the lessons for the future. We are not used to that. Other results, this team has grown up. We allowed the space we wanted to avoid, the space in between the lines, that's why we have the feeling at home.
We have done 60 minutes really good. I know Arsenal here, the amount of chances they created. We didn't create much. We didn't give a lot for Havertz, didn't give away from set pieces. But in the last 20 minutes, we were found out. We can learn, there are margins to get better. It's difficult when you lose 5-1, there's no defence. But the game was well played. Arsenal,  I know how many teams defend deep after 90 minutes. We had the composure to play. The third goal affected us and we stopped what we were doing for 60 minutes.
It happens. It's football. There are a lot of goals. It happens. I don't like it, I'm a bit sad. But it's time to continue. We have a long week, we learn from that again. I know the players want to do it. It's not easy Arsenal are really good, the physicality and pressing were really good. In the future, we will have games where we have to be stable. Those moments will pass and we have to take the game again. It's the responsibility of me as the manager to do it.

Can Arsenal catch Liverpool?

That felt like a huge day in terms of the title race, did it not?

After Liverpool's win at Bournemouth yesterday, it felt like it was slowly becoming a one-horse race for the Premier League.

I don't think that is the feeling anybody has anymore.

Arsenal has been just about staying on the coattails of Liverpool with some cute wins here and there, but they hadn't been really making any statements to worry the leaders.

Well, tonight they did and I'm sure the Reds took notice of it.

The gap is still six points and Liverpool, of course, have a game in hand. However, that game is away at Everton next week and the Toiffees are on fire.

That is by no means a game Liverpool are nailed down to win, even a draw wouldn't be a bad result for them.

So with that in mind, do you think the Gunners can still catch Liverpool and win this title?

Let me know in the comments.

The Young Guns

Arsenal are a side now with youth at their core.

There have been worries about their squad at times this season, but those have started to fade since a certain two stars arrived.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, who is 18 years old, and Ethan Nwaneri, who is just 17, have come into the side and acted like they belong there.

Tonight showcased just how important they are to the Gunners, with both of them scoring stunners.

In fact, this was the first time that two players aged 18 or younger had scored for the same team in a Premier League game for 18 years.

The Gunners have two wonder kids on their hands.

Stones: 'Our pride is hurt'

John Stones, Manchester City defender, speaking to Sky Sports:

It's difficult. We don't take losing well, it's hard for me to put into words. Our pride is hurt, we're sorry to the fans who came to watch that last 30 minutes. It was not acceptable.
As a collective, it's not us - it's not nice to be involved in that. Credit to Arsenal. They played really well against us. We can’t let those situations (the second goal) get on top of us. We could have scored but it seemed to be the opposite.
We stopped doing what we were supposed to do. To concede the goals we did and to allow them to have so much of the ball is frustrating when we’re usually so dominant.
It’s an emotional place in many ways and we want to bounce back quickly - not erase it because these things help you learn. But for our fans who have gone through the good and bad times, we have to make it good again.
I wouldn’t say it's [our era] coming to an end. The passion and heart is there in training and everyone has the right intention. We look at ourselves first and foremost and try to put things right.

Rice: 'The boys are buzzing'

Declan Rice, Arsenal midfielder, speaking to Sky Sports:

To win 5-1 is an unbelievable scoreline – we had fire in our bellies from what happened at the Etihad at the start of the season, we really wanted to amend that. I think we did.
It was an even game up until the third goal. They posed a threat, had a lot of the ball. We had to sit deep. Even though we won 5-1, Man City are a top team.
It’s been building up over a certain amount of time. They nicked the title off Arsenal when I wasn’t here and then they beat us to the title. It’s been hard to accept that and then everything that went on at the Etihad, you do get that fire in your stadium. The boys are buzzing. We are still off the top and that’s where we want to be.

On his own performance:

I don’t think people have got that in my locker. To get two assists was big – I need to add goals and assists to my game if I’m going to keep playing in the No.8 position. I’m feeling way better than I did at the start of the season and we have to keep going to help this club achieve silverware which is why I’m here.

WATCH: Lewis-Skelly scores first Arsenal goal

I reckon I could rave about Myles Lewis-Skelly all night, he really was balling out this evening.

If you haven't seen his goal yet then don't worry, I have got you covered.

If you had no knowledge of football and watched this video, there is no way you'd think this lad was 18 years of age.

He shows all the maturity of a player way beyond his years, but he is only just getting used to the senior game.

I mean, what a time and what a game to score your first goal for Arsenal. It doesn't get much better than that.

Enjoy, Arsenal fans...

A new low for Guardiola

Pep Guardiola must be getting sick and tired of this season.

His Manchester City side have taken some real hammerings this campaign, with this being the worst of the lot.

It's the fourth time this season that City have conceded four or more goals in a game.

That is now the most in a single campaign in Guardiola's whole managerial career.

He will be willing for this campaign to end...

Sorry though Pep, you are going to have to put up with this for another three months.

Utterly brutal.

'I haven't experienced many games like that at The Emirates'

I haven't experienced too many evenings like that at The Emirates. Arsenal were brilliant in the second half and the fans were magnificent.
Fuelled by the exuberance of youth, this could be the game that launches Arsenal back into a title challenge. There's just the small matter of Liverpool's apparent reluctance to slip up...

Apprentice becomes the master

It appears Mikel Arteta now truly has the beating of Pep Guardiola.

After learning all of Guardiola's tricks at City, Arteta found it hard to use them against his old boss.

But my word does he now know how to get one over his former employers and some.

Arteta is now unbeaten in five games against Manchester City; the joint-longest run by a manager against Guardiola.

It appears that the apprentice may have become the master...

Odegaard: 'It can't be better than that'

Martin Odegaard, Arsenal captain, speaking on Sky Sports:

It was a top game and a top performance. With the fans and the atmosphere and the scoresheet like that it can't be better.
Massive impact [from Havertz] again today. You see everything he does. He scored and assisted, he is always there with and without the ball - a top player. It is good to have him in the team.
We have a good connection and we understand each other. Intelligent player and it is good to play with him. We have a great connection with everyone and we know each other so well.

On opening the scoring:

It was about time and it was good after as we didn't stop - we kept on going. We got what we deserved. It was a good one.
