Gold Coast Suns forced to apologise after bizarre hack on the AFL club's social media accounts left fans scratching their heads

The Gold Coast Suns have apologised to footy fans after the AFL club's Meta social media accounts were hacked earlier this week.

The football club issued a statement on Tuesday morning via X, explaining that officials had been locked out of the Suns' Facebook and Instagram pages.

'The club is aware of the current issues with its Meta account and is working to rectify the situation,' the club statement read.

'Please note that any post made at this time is unauthorised and we apologise for any inconvenience, harm or offence caused.

'The club will keep fans up to date.'

Unusual posts started appearing on the pages on Monday night and Tuesday morning that had fans scratching their heads.

Fans didn't know what to make of the bizarre posts on Facebook 

The football club explained that officials had been locked out of the Suns' Facebook and Instagram pages

The bizarre posts included footage of people farming and other random memes.

Fans cottoned on that things were amiss pretty quickly.

'What the hell is going on here,' posted one fan

'If you're having a bad Tuesday, it's not as bad as the Gold Coast Suns Socials Admin,'said another.

'So has the @GoldCoastSUNS facebook page been hacked or what?' replied a third.

The club, which is preparing for their opening game of the pre-season, got some positive news on Tuesday with Matt Rowell committing verbally to remain on the glitter strip until the 2026 season is over.

The footy star has been reportedly targeted by several rival clubs, so the news will be a big relief to Suns supporters. 

Last week Rowell was pressed by reporters if he'd remain at the club and he seemed less than enthused.

'Yeah, I think (I'll stay)', he said.

'That'll happen when we get to it, but I'm just focused on the season coming up and winning our first game.'
