LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The operator of a Springdale turkey plant responsible for a massive recall of ground turkey continues to investigate what caused the outbreak.
A spokesman for the meat giant Cargill says officials are still trying to find how a strain of salmonella got into millions of pounds of ground turkey. Mark Klein says the company is getting closer, but is still searching for answers.
The company has recalled 36 million pounds of ground turkey from grocery stores all over the country.
Arkansas is one of the country’s biggest turkey producers. State experts say this week’s mishap is one of the most serious in recent memory.
Consumers have been asked to check their freezers for any packages labeled with the code EST DOT P-963 which is stamped on several brands.
