PHOENIX – Brittney Griner got a lesson from one of basketball’s greatest players on the sport’s most unstoppable shot.
NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar attended the Phoenix Mercury’s practice on Wednesday and worked with Griner on the finer points of the skyhook after it was over.
Abdul-Jabbar used the iconic shot to win six NBA titles and six MVP awards, and Griner hopes to add it to her repertoire.
Abdul-Jabbar spent about 20 minutes with Griner, showing her the proper footwork, how to use leverage against the defender and how to hold the ball.
Griner was an attentive student and said she would like to use the skyhook in games, once she has a better feel for it.
