Colleen Hoover shares health update on cancer battle
The author and producer behind Blake Lively's It Ends with Us film has revealed she has been battling cancer as she shared a behind-the-scenes picture from treatment. Colleen Hoover shared the health update with her 1.9million followers on Instagram on Monday. Wearing a blue hospital gown and her hair in a messy bun, Hoover grimaced in the mirror selfie as she revealed she was undergoing her 'second to last day of radiation.' 'I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @ Texas.Oncology, but they've been great,' she added. 'Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them.'
The explosive claims rocking Hoover’s film empire
Hoover is the brains behind both It Ends with Us and Regretting You - both of which became Hollywood blockbusters. But her It Ends with Us film was overshadowed by behind-the-scenes drama after lead actress Blake Lively filed a legal complaint accusing Baldoni and his production company of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. Baldoni denied the allegations and later filed a $400million countersuit against Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds, claiming they defamed him and tried to launch a smear campaign. Much of his countersuit was later dismissed by a judge. The case is slated to return to court for a January 22 hearing, with a May 18 trial date looming.
The health struggles that forced Colleen Hoover into hiding
Hoover had alluded to a health problem late in 2025 when she missed major milestones ahead of the release of her other film, Regretting You. 'I'm super bummed, but am having an unavoidable surgery and can't travel for a while,' she wrote in October. She added she was 'so sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together.' Hoover said in a separate Facebook post that the cancer had been 'removed through surgery' and that it would be further treated with radiation.
'listen to your body'
'While it felt huge and scary for a bit, and I had to miss out on the Regretting You premiere, and some other important career and personal moments, I just wasn't ready to share with anyone until I knew what the outcome would be,' she wrote. Hoover urged fans to 'listen to your body' and to investigate if something felt 'off.' It Ends with Us earned $148 million in domestic box office and $350 million globally - but its success has been overshadowed by the allegations made by its stars.
The motion picture, which also starred Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Brandon Sklenar and Kevin McKidd, was based on the 2016 novel by Hoover. The storyline of the film centered around a toxic relationship between Lily Bloom (played by Lively) and Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni). According to a logline for the film, Lily 'overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life,' as 'a chance meeting with a neurosurgeon sparks a connection but Lily begins to see sides of him that remind her of her parents' relationship.'
